Spanish
Intent
At Castle Primary School we believe that learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality language education should foster pupils' curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world.
We aim for all pupils to:
• Understand and respond to written and spoken Spanish from a variety of authentic sources
• Speak Spanish with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they
want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy
of their pronunciation and intonation
• Experiment with writing in Spanish, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical
structures that they have learnt
• Develop their curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world
Implementation
At Castle primary School we teach Spanish currently to KS2 children using a programme called ‘Language Angels’. This programme provides comprehensive resources that are engaging and fun. ‘Language Angels’ provides a well-structured curriculum that ensures excellent progress with their language learning. The programme that we use is reflective of the National Curriculum and we teach accordingly by selecting material to suit the class and differentiate to match different abilities. Through learning languages, we hope that the children can apply this to other areas of the curriculum.
Intent
The impact of our Spanish Curriculum is that we support children in improve their language proficiency. We provide increased enjoyment and understanding of different cultures and languages as well as providing them with skills which will prepare them for studying a language when they leave primary School.
