Home assisted learning is given out every Wednesday to be handed back in on a Monday.

Our recommended times for home assisted learning is set out below.

Year Group        Reading                        Other (Literacy & Maths)

Reception          10 Minutes per day   10 Minutes per week
Years 1 and 2     15 Minutes per day   20 Minutes per week
Years 3 and 4    20 Minutes per day    30 Minutes per week
Years 5 and 6    20 Minutes per day    60 Minutes per week

There is an expectation that every child will read at home a minimum of 4 times per week. This needs to be recorded in reading record books and children then receive a ‘regular reader’ raffle ticket which then enters them into a prize draw at the end of each term (3 times per year).

Children choose 3 spellings per week from their year group word lists to focus on practising how to spell them, write them down and include them in sentences.

This will vary according to the learning in class that week. It may take the form of learning times tables or other related maths work.

Big Talk

Each week in Reception and KS1 and every other week in KS2 there will also be a ‘big talk’ focus. This is a speaking and listening activity which encourages children to talk to their parents about a particular topic.
