Castle Early Years
Welcome to Kendal Class. Our provision caters for children aged 2 to 4 years old. We follow the Early Foundation Stage Curriculum; learning through exploring, creating, investigating and being with others.
Our session times are 8.45 to 11.45 am and 12 noon to 3.00 pm, term time only, in our pre-school. Sessions above the 15 hour entitlement cost £13.50 each and we accept 30 hour funding as well. We are registered with most childcare voucher providers and with ChildCare Choices.
We go to the school hall for our lunch and the children can choose to bring a packed lunch or buy a school hot meal.
We offer our families a home visit prior to your child starting so we can meet you and talk and complete an “All About Me” about your child’s likes/needs/areas for support. We then invite you in to Kendal for a stay and play session so your child can see the setting and feel more settled when they join.
We extend our learning by visiting the school hall for physical time, the field for games (eg parachute play) and Abbots Wood for our weekly Woodland Wander (forest school based activities including den building, minibeast hunts and colour trails).
We have a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in the Nursery who supports children and families.
We ensure children feel secure and safe through our key person system; each child is allocated a key person who is responsible to settling, assessing and your first port of call if you need any support.
We currently assess the children through Tapestry, an online learning diary, to track your child’s progress at school and you can add observations from home.
We have three parents evenings each year so we can talk in person about the progress your child is making and we write a summative assessment (progress linked to the areas of the early Years Foundation Stage curriculum) to share with you at these times.
We are proud of the relationships we form with our parents and carers. We value your involvement and offer lots of opportunities for you to join us in school, eg Woodland Wanders, bedtime story night and World Book Day storytime.
We are now welcoming applications for places from September 2019. Please contact the Office (0117 986 4489 or firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
