Castle Eco Warriors

Welcome to the Eco Warriors Page!

We are a group of children who try to make the school as green and environmentally friendly as possible. We are currently working towards our Green Flag award. We made a list of all the things we needed to do and wrote an action plan.

We have an Eco Code. As a group we discussed all the environmental issues locally, nationally and internationally that we thought were important and put them into a code. We shared this with the school in an assembly.

The Work of the Eco Warriors

In November we took part in Switch Off Fortnight.  At the beginning we shared our aims with the whole school during an assembly and we monitored the impact of the fortnight by checking the classrooms at lunchtimes to make sure all electrical appliances that were not in use were switched off.  Over the two weeks, after a few helpful reminders, most classes had improved.  As a team we decided that we should continue to monitor this to ensure we don't slip back into bad habits.

In December we had two OWL meters installed.  These meters are designed to help us to monitor our electricity usage.  Unfortunately we have had some problems downloading the data and so we are looking into other ways of recording this.

In January a representative from Bristol Water came into school to help us audit our water usage.  The audit highlighted that we are currently wasting water in some areas around the school and we are now hoping to install some water saving devices to reduce this wastage.

In March we took part in the Big Pedal, when we encouraged children and their parents/carers to cycle or scoot to school as part of a national competition.
